Mobile S.T.E.M. Day

It was S.T.E.M. Day at the school. I think I got as excited as the students in the experience. There were several different stations that the students could “play” on. These include watching the 3D printer work its magic, blocks to build, make an arch using big blocks, law of gravity experiment, etc. The most popular was the bicycle light generator. The most popular before the robot started playing “sports” and talking back to the students. Anyway…back to the bicycle…There was a long line of kids who wanted to pedal their way to turn on the light. It was really cute. The guy that came to show and explain brought “NAO.” Two robots that interacted with the kids. I must admit it was pretty neat. I had never seen one live.

20141009_133900We learned that we need to put in special programs to get the robots to do certain tasks. The blue “NAO” was able to do different sports movements, such as bowling, playing volleyball, or kickboxing. The robots didn’t sing to our group of kids, but according to my 3rd graders at after school program, they sang the “Happy Birthday” song for them. This was really neat…never knew there was such thing. Good to know in the future. Mobile S.T.E.M. Lab.

Oh! Here is the picture of the 3D printer:
